Apple “Let Loose” Event Slated For May 7: New iPads Expected

Apple is holding an event next Tuesday, May 7th at 7 a.m. PT (that’s 10 a.m. ET)! You can catch all the action on Apple.com or YouTube like always. The invite says “Let Loose” and there’s this cool render of an Apple Pencil, so looks like iPads are gonna steal the show!

Apple’s invite doesn’t talk about any in-person stuff. They’re inviting the media to tune in online, just like everyone else. At the event, Apple’s likely gonna spill the beans on some fresh iPad Pro and iPad Air models, and they might even give us the lowdown on updated Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard accessories. Here’s the scoop on what’s been buzzing:

  • Check it out, they’re talking about dropping two new iPad Pro versions with the M3 chip, OLED screens, a slimmer body, thinner borders, a matte screen option, a front camera that’s set up for landscape shots, and some other design tweaks. Oh, and they might even throw in MagSafe wireless charging!
  • There are whispers about two fresh iPad Air editions packing the M2 chip and a front camera that’s all about those landscape snaps. Plus, brace yourself for the very first 12.9-inch iPad Air featuring a mini-LED display.
  • Rumor has it there’s gonna be a brand new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro. It’s supposed to rock an aluminum casing, a bigger trackpad, and a few other design tweaks. And guess what? There might also be a fresh Apple Pencil in the mix, possibly with a cool “squeeze” move for some tricks and future support for visionOS.

It’s been forever since Apple dropped a new iPad – we’re talking late 2022! So, this event is like a breath of fresh air. And get this, it’s goin’ down just over a month before their big WWDC shindig, happening from June 10 to June 14.

Besides, Apple’s diving into AI with iOS 18, and they’re all about keeping things private. They’re aiming to handle all the processing right on your iPhone, no need to send stuff to the cloud. Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about it, with sources buzzing about the AI upgrades coming in iOS 18 and macOS 15.

Looks like the first bunch of features won’t need Wi-Fi. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg spilled the beans in his PowerOn newsletter last Sunday, saying that the initial set of AI goodies in iOS 18 “will run entirely on your device.” So, in plain English, you can use these AI tricks even if you’re offline, no need for any cloud stuff.

So, according to some folks in the know who chatted with AppleInsider, it looks like the report got it right on the money. Apple’s cooking up its very own big language model, and they’re calling it “Ajax” behind closed doors.
