Over a month since Apple launched the latest lineup of its iPhones that have become all the rage, for all the good and bad reasons, and more than a year since it announced new iPads. According to some hot gossip, Apple might release a new and affordable iPad, iPad mini and an upgraded iPad Air as early as tomorrow, October 17.
Before you proceed further, there are also some counter-rumours, suggesting the new iPads won’t be coming any time soon.
According to a report by Supercharged, the new iPads will carry similar looks to their predecessors, but will come with upgraded hardware.
Apart from the iPad Air, which was launched three years ago, iPad mini and base model iPad will receive small upgrades.
It is believed that the iPad Air, which is powered by the M1 chip, will be upgraded to the M2 chip that should give it a significant performance boost. Meanwhile, iPad mini will be upgraded to the A16 Bionic chip from the current A15 Bionic chip.
The iPad mini upgrade should address the “jelly scrolling” issue some users have experienced, moving on to a smoother and more responsive experience.
The iPad, which was updated just last year, should also be equipped with the A16 chip. The 10th generation iPad came with a sleek design and thin bezels, the design language should remain similar in the 11th generation.
It should be noted that the A16 chip also powered last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models and has now been installed into the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus phones.
Apple is traditionally known to announce new iPads a month after its iPhone launch event, however, Bloomberg has suggested that the new iPad lineup will launch in 2023, but not in October.
There are also rumours about a next-generation iPad Pro lineup, powered by the new M2 chip. It is believed that the iPad Pro will be the first pair of iPads to feature an OLED screen, as compared to the current mini-LED screen.
