Apple Vision Pro could have disappointing initial shipments; Analyst claims

You can start pre-ordering the Apple Vision Pro from January 19, and the AR headset will hit the shelves on February 2. Since it’s initially launching in just one market, an analyst suggests there might be around 80,000 units available, but he also predicts a swift sell-out for several reasons, which we’ll delve into here.

The Apple Vision Pro is expected to fly off the shelves once pre-orders kick in. Just in case anyone on X missed his previous update, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities wants to emphasize again. This time, he mentions that the initial batch of the mixed-reality headset might be between 60,000 and 80,000 units, suggesting Apple could rake in around $279.92 million from the launch.

But considering Apple’s diverse range of businesses, the initial release of the Apple Vision Pro might be more of a test run to gauge the market’s reaction to such a product. Kuo has mentioned before that the hardware specs and software of the Apple Vision Pro surpass industry standards. He also thinks that the hefty $3,499 price won’t deter consumers from grabbing the headset.

Rather than the price, he anticipates that the exceptional user experience and revolutionary tech innovations will drive the sell-out success of the Apple Vision Pro. Beyond the $3,499 price tag, Apple has another income avenue with accessory sales for its AR headset. They’re planning to offer prescription lenses priced from $99 to $149, turning it into another revenue stream for the tech giant based in California.

Earlier, Kuo figured that about 500,000 units of the Apple Vision Pro would be sent out in 2024. This specific model is expected to remain in circulation for a considerable time, with the analyst thinking that its successor won’t hit mass production until 2027. Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly developing a more affordable alternative slated for a possible release in 2025. However, this budget-friendly option might come with an iPhone chipset instead of a Mac one and a less advanced display.
