E-Scooters

Ather 450 Apex is an electric scooter on steroids, not for the faint-hearted

The person who said Electric Scooters can’t be fun has yet to experience the thrill of riding the Ather 450 Apex. Launched at a whopping 1.89 lakh, the 450 Apex is the EV maker’s flagship electric scooter capable of clocking 40 kmph from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds. The EV scooter can surpass the 100 kmph mark, surpassing its predecessor’s 90 kmph limit.

The Bengaluru-based EV maker has used a more powerful 7.0 kW/26 Nm motor, as opposed to the 6.4 kW unit that powered the Ather 450X. The motor produces a maximum torque of 26NM.

Ather 450 Apex Specifications and Features

What’s so special about the Ather 450 Apex that makes it more expensive than a Royal Enfield Classic Bullet. Well, for starters, it’s the company’s 10-year special edition scooter with many first-of-its-kind features. The electric scooter has a claimed zero lag throttle-to-wheel response powered by the EV maker’s all-new Warp+ mode. Ather mentions that the patented technology on 450 Apex makes it the only scooter in the world to achieve such fast acceleration.

There’s another first on the 450 Apex. The electric scooter has a Magic Twist feature, which essentially allows you to speed up or slow down using the same throttle. The only-throttle mode should minimize braking by allowing you to control the speed via the throttle.

The Ather 450 Apex has a claimed range of 157 km on a single charge. The electric scooter has five different riding modes (TrueRange, SmartEco, Eco Ride, Sport, and Warp+), and takes about six hours for a full charge.

As far as the exterior looks are concerned, the Ather 450 Apex is a head-turner with vibrant colors and sharp edges. This is the first scooter in India flaunting a transparent design. The team has kept the overall design clean and minimal by reducing the wire use and visible joints. The scooter has a glossy frame with a frosted coating inside revealing the chassis in bright orange color.

The electric scooter also features a newly designed user interface for the 7-inch TFT touch-screen (odometer). Ather has also designed some special accessories for the 450 Apex. The electric scooter comes with an IP66 rating for for motor and an IP65 rating for the controller.

You can book the new Ather EV scooter by paying a nominal token amount of just Rs. 2,500. Ather will start the deliveries in March 2024.

Would you spend 1.9 lakh on an electric scooter or simply go for a petrol two-wheeler? Let us know in the comments.
