BYD Dolphin EV with 427 km range trademarked in India; set to rival the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV

Chinese automobile giant- BYD has trademarked the Dolphin name in India for their upcoming 5-Star rated EV. One of the most important products in BYD’s Ocean line-up, Dolphin will be the company’s third electric vehicle in India and will be a direct rival of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV.

Upon its launch, the Dolphin will be one of the most feature-equipped EVs in its category and will pose a good fight to the current EVs selling in the Indian market. Let’s take a closer look at BYD Dolphin specifications and features.

BYD Dolphin Features, Range, and Specifications

The Dolphin, with its dimensions of 4,290 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, 1,570 mm in height, and an extended wheelbase of 2,700 mm, presents a substantial presence on the road. The electric vehicle prioritizes space and practicality by boasting a 345L boot space, expandable to a capacious 1,310L through the flexible 60:40 split rear seats.

BYD offers two battery choices with Dolphin: a 44.9 kWh and a larger 60.48 kWh option. Its powertrain features a single-motor front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout, delivering a power range from 94 to 201 bhp and torque between 180 and 310 Nm. These are some decent figures and should ensure a good performance in the city commute, and on the highway.

The Dolphin features connected tail lights adorned with the Build Your Dream (BYD) lettering and intriguing LED signatures that add a touch of visual appeal. Dolphin comes in dual-tone color finishes- Grey + Black, Blue + Grey, Pink + Grey, and White + Grey.

Technology enthusiasts will drool over the Dolphin’s feature-packed cabin. The EV offers a multi-layered dashboard dominated by a massive 12.8-inch rotatable infotainment screen. Other notable features include- a vegan leather multi-function steering wheel, on-boarded 4G connectivity, PM2.5 air filter, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, leatherette upholstery, panoramic glass roof, powered and ventilated front seats, TPMS, 360-degree camera, and ADAS suite.

Dolphin’s price could start at Rs. 18 lacs and go up to Rs. 28 lacs, making it a competitor for the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, the upcoming Creta EV, and Maruti Suzuki’s eVX.

Notably, BYD has one of the widest electric vehicle portfolios in the international market. BYD currently sells two premium electric MPVs in India- Atto 3 and E6 MPV. Both are premium offerings and offer a range of connected features, well-equipped cabins, and long-distance range promise. While the Atto 3 eSUV starts at Rs. 34 lacs, the E6 MPV comes at a starting price of Rs. 29 lacs.

BYD’s premium electric sedan-Seal is also expected to make an official entry into the Indian market. Stay tuned for the EV’s details.
