ChatGPT can again browse internet, will soon be available to all users

The world’s favorite chatbot, ChatGPT can once again browse the internet and is no longer restricted to the information till its training date, September 2021.

While the new feature is currently available to paid users of Plus and Enterprise via GPT-4, OpenAI has said to bring web browsing to all users of ChatGPT.

“ChatGPT can now browse the internet to provide you with current and authoritative information, complete with direct links to sources. It is no longer limited to data before September 2021,” OpenAI said in a post on X.

Responding to the post on the revival of ChatGPT’s browsing abilities, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote, “we are so back”.

The company has said that the chatbot’s ability to browse the internet will help with tasks that need up-to-date information for technical research or choosing a gadget.

The browsing abilities can be explored through an extension called ‘Browser with Bing’. Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing already provides browsing features, as well as ChatGPT’s biggest competitor, Google’s Bard.

According to reports, ChatGPT’s iOS users were already using the web browsing feature back in June but OpenAI had to remove the feature as users had started using the chatbot to access paywalled content.

For now, ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users can enable Browser with Bing in the selector under GPT-4.

In the ChatGPT’s mobile app, users can go to Settings, tap on the New Features and select Browsing with Bing extension to use the feature.

A few days ago, OpenAI also announced that ChatGPT can now answer user queries in five different voices, which raises the bar against the voice assistants by giants like Apple and Google.

ChatGPT is also using the multimodal abilities of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 to understand image based queries from users. People can now upload one or more images to ask for Chatimage-based a meal plan or even code for them.
