Elden Ring expansion ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ coming out on June 21

Elden Ring fans who have been eagerly waiting for a reason to revisit the Lands Between will soon have one. Publisher Bandai Namco and studio FromSoftware announced in a gameplay trailer that the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion will be released on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on June 21. The studio had announced the DLC a year ago.

The three-minute trailer is appropriately grand in scale. It showcases new locations and more cunning bosses to defeat. One resembles a colossal burning Wicker Man, while another has a horned, lion-like face and lightning abilities. We also catch a glimpse of a repulsive, worm-like enemy that can nearly engulf the player character.

It looks like there will be new hand-to-hand combat options, as the protagonist is seen attacking an enemy with a series of kicks. Towards the end of the clip, our hero grows wings, suggesting an aerial attack is in store.

According to Bandai Namco, players will be entering “the Land of Shadow to explore a new adventure full of mysteries and danger,” where they’ll “unravel the dark side of the Elden Ring story.”

Pre-orders for the $40 expansion are now available, and newcomers can also purchase a bundle that includes the base game. Different special editions come with extras like an artbook, soundtrack, and a figure of Messmer the Impaler, who seems to be the expansion’s main antagonist.

According to Reuters, Tencent is reportedly developing a mobile version of FromSoftware’s popular game Elden Ring, and here’s the kicker—it’s going to be free-to-play! They got the inside scoop from three individuals who are well-versed in Tencent’s plans.

So, it seems like the Chinese tech giant has assembled a team of “a few dozen folks” who have been hard at work on the game ever since Tencent Holdings acquired a stake in FromSoftware back in August 2022. If this report is accurate, Elden Ring would just be the latest addition to Tencent’s long list of major game titles that they’ve licensed to create free-to-play mobile versions.

Some of the standout successes in this mobile game transformation journey have been PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile, but Tencent and its team are also hard at work on mobile versions of Need for Speed and Assassin’s Creed.
