Google in trouble over selling Pixel 6 Pro with overheating defect

It’s well-known that Google’s Pixel smartphones, which come with the Tensor SoC, aren’t great at managing heat. This problem doesn’t seem to have been fixed with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro either. But what happens when a company is aware that it’s selling high-end devices with a known overheating issue?

They better have a top-notch legal team because a new lawsuit alleges that the Pixel 6 Pro was manufactured in large quantities with this specific defect, even though the company was fully aware of it.

Jennifer Hyatt filed a class action lawsuit against Google regarding the Pixel 6 Pro. According to Law360, Hyatt received multiple replacement Pixel 6 Pro units, all of which had the same overheating issue. This couldn’t have been a coincidence.

The lawsuit also claims that Google continued to sell this outdated flagship model despite being aware of the issue, and the plaintiff wants the company to not only create an ad informing customers about the problem but also to refund those who bought the Pixel 6 Pro.

Google and its executives haven’t responded to the new lawsuit yet, but a Redditor previously posted a picture showing a burned patch on the Pixel 6 Pro’s heatsink, likely caused by the Tensor’s overheating issues.

Since Hyatt isn’t the only one who faced this issue, this lawsuit could carry some weight. If Google is found guilty, Android Authority says the company would be breaking California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, False Advertising Law, Unfair Competition Law, and the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.

However, it’s important to note that this lawsuit is still in its early stages, and a lot could happen before a verdict is reached. There’s also a chance that these Pixel 6 Pro claims could be dismissed during the filing process. As always, we’ll keep you updated on any developments.
