Google to pump in $25 million in Europe to boost AI efforts

Google has rolled out the AI Opportunity Initiative for Europe, aimed at providing training and skills to help folks and countries make the most of AI. They’re teaming up with governments and local communities to offer a mix of basic and advanced AI training to support vulnerable groups, startups, and everyone else.

As a part of the AI Opportunity Initiative for Europe, Google also revealed a €25 million funding from Google.org to back AI training and skills for folks all over Europe, with a special emphasis on vulnerable and underserved groups. €10 million of this will be set aside to help workers get the skills they need to stay ahead of the curve.

The AI Opportunity Initiative is rolling out a fresh batch of Google for Startups Growth Academies across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This equity-free program is aimed at backing startups that are using AI to tackle some of society’s biggest issues, like health, education, and cybersecurity.

It’s all about helping startups boost their user base, expand, and go global, with a little help from Google’s products, top tips, and connections to experts.

As part of the initiative, Google’s AI foundational courses will now be available in 18 languages. These courses are free and open to everyone, providing a range of modules on basic AI skills to help individuals and businesses gain practical skills and knowledge.

“AI has enormous potential to transform the world for the better. Yet research shows that the benefits of AI could exacerbate existing inequalities – especially in terms of economic security and employment. This new program will help people across Europe develop their knowledge, skills and confidence around AI, ensuring that no one is left behind,” said Adrian Brown, Executive Director, Centre for Public Impact, Google.
