Google on Wednesday launched a slew of new products, including the much-awaited Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones. What was distinct about the launch event was the company’s eager push for artificial intelligence’s deeper integration into its devices and system.
Google launched Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Watch 2, and Buds Pro at the event. Let’s get into the details:
Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
The Google Pixel 8 features a 6.2-inch Actua display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,400 nits of brightness (with peaks up to 2,000 nits), and a pixel density of 427 pixels per inch.
Packed inside an elegant glass and metal design, the premium flagship phone has a punch-hole display.
In the camera department, the Pixel 8 features a 50MP primary sensor, along with a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 10.5MP selfie camera. The ultrawide camera is updated to include autofocus, which brings Macro Focus outside Google’s Pro series for the first time.
The Pixel 8 runs on the Tensor G3 processor, offering better speed and performance compared to its predecessor, the Tensor G2. It is supported by 8GB of RAM and provides storage choices of up to 256 GB.
The latest Google phone is powered by a 4,575mAh battery and comes preloaded with the Android 14 operating system.
Google has also promised software support for seven years!
Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 8 Pro features a bigger and brighter display with a 6.7-inch Super Actua screen, with 120Hz refresh rate and up to a crazy 2400 nits of peak brightness.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by the new Tensor G3 chipset, coupled with the Titan M2 Security Coprocessor and 12GB of RAM.
For optics, the rear camera setup includes a triple configuration comprising a primary 50MP primary camera, a 48MP ultrawide ultrawide camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera.
Perhaps taking a cue from Apple, Google’s telephoto camera supports 5x optical zoom and up to 30x Super Res zoom on Pixel 8 Pro.
This year’s Pixel phone comes with a temperature sensor, capable of measuring the temperature of various objects, including pans, beverages, baby bottles, and more.
The magic of Artificial Intelligence in Pixel phones
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones come packed with some amazing AI features such as Audio Magic Eraser, Magic Editor, Zoom Enhance, and Best Take.
Let us tell you briefly about these features.
The Best Take feature in the new phone uses a series of similar photos that are taken close together to help you automatically create a blended image with everyone’s best expression.
Google had earlier announced the Magic Editor feature. It uses generative AI to easily make complex edits like resizing or repositioning your subject and improving the lighting and background with the help of contextual suggestions. In simple words, if you think your friend looks too small or too big in an environment, you can resize them in the photo. Or, if you took a picture on a bright sunny day but don’t like the output, you can simply turn it into a golden-hour sunset.
Audio Magic Eraser will allow you to identify multiple sounds in a video, separate them, and then let you control which ones you want and which you don’t. It will help reduce distracting or unwanted noises from a video.
Zoom Enhance will come to Pixel 8 Pro in a later update and will allow you to zoom in on a picture, and then generative AI will fill in the gaps between pixels and predict the final details to give you an image that wouldn’t look as if it has been zoomed in.
The company has made Assistant better with some AI updates. It will now be able to understand speech better and recognize pauses. It will also be able to translate web pages and read them out loud.
The phones have been priced at Rs 75,999 for Pixel 8 and the top model will cost you Rs 1,06,999. Pre-orders for the Pixel 8 phones are now open on Flipkart.
