Here’s what Apple plans to do with iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max

Now that Samsung dropped the Galaxy S24 Ultra last week, everyone’s waiting to see what tricks Apple has up its sleeve for the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. While Apple usually unveils new iPhones in September, a bunch of leaks and analyst guesses are already painting a picture of what’s in store. Faster and more power-efficient processors are a given, but the real excitement might come from some hardware tweaks, finally giving the top-notch iPhone Pro series the boost it needs.

Apple has been giving us Pro iPhones with a max of 1 TB storage, but word on the street, courtesy of DigiTimes, is that with the iPhone 16, they might double that to a whopping 2 TB, at least for the pro models. And there’s more – the report hints that Apple might go for slightly cheaper QLC (Quad-Level Cell) NAND storage instead of the pricier TLC (Triple-Level Cell) NAND.

The latest scoop from The Information suggests a plot twist for the iPhone 16 Pro series – instead of going completely buttonless, there might be an extra button in the mix. According to the leak, this new button could find its spot on the lower right-hand side of the iPhone, taking a page out of the older Nokia Lumia and Sony Xperia flagship playbook.

The word on the street is that the iPhone 16 series is leveling up on screen size. The regular iPhone 16 and its buddy, the iPhone 16 Pro, are rumored to rock a 6.3-inch display. But if you’re eyeing the iPhone 16 Plus or going all out with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, get ready for an even more generous 6.9-inch screen. However, Apple might keep the fancy 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate exclusive to the Pro models.

Apple’s been sticking with the last-gen chip for the basic iPhone models for a bit, and it seems they might continue that trend across the whole lineup. According to MacRumors, the scuttlebutt is that the entire iPhone 16 squad will run on the A18 chip. But here’s the kicker – the Pro models might kick things up a notch with speed-binned chips boasting higher CPU clock speeds and more CPU cores.

According to the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the scoop is that Apple is gearing up to introduce a 5x telephoto zoom lens on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The larger display on the iPhone 16 Pro could be the key to making room for this new zoom lens, which needs a bit more space inside the phone compared to your standard camera module.
