How to apply black theme on Instagram

Flipping on dark mode switches an app’s background to a darker color, usually black instead of white, to tone down that bright white light on your screen. Even though dark mode isn’t really any better for your eyes, it can help your battery last longer and it’s easier on the eyes, especially when you’re winding down for the night.

Instagram now rocks a dark mode for iPhones or iPads on iOS 13 or higher, and Androids on Android 10 or higher. Once you flick that switch, the app’s backdrop (behind all those pics) goes black, and the text turns white.

On both iOS and Android, you won’t find a setting in the Instagram app to switch on dark mode. Instead, you gotta do it in your device’s system settings, and Instagram will just fall in line with the rest of your device. Here’s how you do it.

Instagram Dark Mode can atually be helpful

Hey, keep in mind, staring at screens for too long isn’t good for your eyes or your health in general. Studies show that folks spending more than four hours on their phones end up with tiredness, headaches, and even watery eyes, among other problems. Toggling on dark mode can help you at least minimize the damage.

Whether you’re on Instagram or any other app, if the background’s all white, your eyes are gonna feel it after a while. It’s even tougher on them if you’re squinting at your screen in a dark room, so it’s always a good idea to have dark mode turned on in those situations.
