Huawei has expanded its foldable smartphone portfolio with the launch of Pocket 2. The new flip handset features a sleek clamshell design packing some cutting-edge hardware and noteworthy features. We’ll talk about the features and the hardware in a bit but let’s first focus on the stunning design.
The Pocket 2 comes in Elegant Black, Rococo White, Tahitian Grey, and Taro Purple color options. Weighing 202 grams and measuring 7.25mm unfolded and 15.3mm folded, the flip handset feels super premium, and sturdy. It kinda looks more striking than the other flip handsets available in the market. The Huawei Pocket 2 also maintains durability with an IPX8 rating for splash resistance.
What sets the Pocket 2 apart is its big, and bold camera setup – a first for a clamshell foldable, featuring a quad rear camera unit. The big camera circle includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter, and a 2-megapixel hyperspectral camera. Additionally, the centered hole-punch slot on the inner display houses a 10.7-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling.
Onto other important specs, the flip phone has a 6.94-inch LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 2,690 x 1,136 pixels. Boasting a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a PWM dimming rate of 1,440Hz, and a touch sampling rate of 300Hz, the screen reaches a peak brightness of 2,200 nits. Complementing this is a circular cover display flaunting a 1.15-inch OLED panel that displays time, date, and notifications.
Under the hood, the Huawei Pocket 2 is powered by a Kirin 9000s SoC with configurations of up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of onboard storage. Running on HarmonyOS 4.0, the device should offer a smooth user experience. Since we haven’t tested any Huawei handset in the recent past running on their new OS, we can’t comment on the software experience.
Despite a clamshell design, the Huawei Pocket 2 comes equipped with a respectable 4,520mAh battery cell supported by 66W wired charging, 40W wireless charging, and 7.5W wireless reverse charging. Once again, these are some impressive numbers in terms of charging speed and technology.
Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and USB Type-C, providing users with a robust set of options.
As for the pricing, the Huawei Pocket 2 has been launched in the homegrown market China at a starting price of CNY 7,499 (approximately Rs. 86,400) for the 256GB model. The 512GB version is priced at CNY 7,999 (around Rs. 92,200), and the 1TB variant carries a price tag of CNY 8,999 (roughly Rs. 1,03,700). Don’t expect it to come to India, enjoy the beauty from a distance. Ok Bye.
