India-bound BYD Seal premium EV sedan specifications revealed; launch set for March 5

The BYD Seal is set to make its official debut in India on March 5. Positioned as BYD’s third electric vehicle in the Indian market, this luxury EV sedan will come with a premium price tag of Rs. 50 lakhs (ex-showroom).

BYD Seal was unveiled initially at Auto Expo 2023. With the official specifications now available for the specific Seal model destined for Indian roads, it’s poised to give tough competition to rivals such as the Kia Ev6 and the Hyundai Ionic 5. Let’s take a closer look at the BYD Seal’s specifications.

BYD Seal key Specifications- Entry-level RWD variant

  • The Seal model in India will feature an 82.5kWh battery pack (designed on BYD’s patented Blade technology). The battery provides power to the rear-wheel drive system.
  • BYD asserts a claimed range of 570km on the WLTP cycle for the Seal in India.
  • The Seal is equipped with a rear-mounted (rear axle) permanent magnet synchronous motor.
  • The motor can generate 230hp. The torque produced by the motor is measured at 360Nm.
  • BYD states a 0-100kph time of 5.9 seconds for this specification in India. The premium sedan will weigh 2,055kg.
  • The battery is capable of fast charging at speeds of up to 150kW. Within 37 minutes, it achieves a 10-80 percent charge using fast charging. It takes 8.6 hours to charge the battery from 0-100 percent with a regular 11kW AC charger.

The BYD Seal is positioned as a direct rival to the Hyundai Ionic and even the Kia EV6. With a notable 5-star rating on Euro NCAP, this sedan is set to pose a formidable challenge to the Tesla Model S, which is anticipated to be Tesla’s first offering in the Indian market.

For those considering a premium electric vehicle in India, the BYD Seal is worth the wait. Bookings are already open at dealerships, but deliveries will only commence after the official launch of the sedan in India.
