iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max to carry upgraded and faster Apple A17 Bionic chip; rumoured price may give you kidney ache

In almost a month’s time, Apple is expected to launch its flagship iPhone 15 series phones. And if rumors are to be believed, the phone will be unveiled on September 13.

With the launch date closing in, the rumor mills are working double time and according to the latest leak by Unknownz21 (@URedditor), the Pro and Pro Max models of the phone will come with the superfast A17 Bionic chip.

Promising to bring substantial GPU enhancements, the A17 chip might even boast a peak clock speed of 3.70 GHz! The leak has suggested that it could adopt Apple supplier TSMC’s 3nm processor technology.

If the leaked configuration is true it can mark a significant improvement from the A16 chip.

The new A17 chip is expected to pack six CPU cores and six GPU cores. The current A16 Bionic chip, which powers the existing iPhone 14 Pro models, runs on six CPU cores and five GPU cores.

The A16 chip delivered a maximum clock speed of 3.46 GHz.

Earlier leaks had suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would come with 8GB of RAM, however, the latest leak says otherwise. As per the new leaks, both phones will retain 6GB LPDDR5 RAM as earlier phones.

Traditionally, Apple has kept its RAM configuration hidden in its specs sheet.

Other updates

All four models – Basic, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max – in the latest series will likely have Type C charging. More than design change, the switch is also in accordance with the law change in India and the European Union.

Against the usual stainless steel or aluminum frames, the new series could have titanium frames in the Pro and Pro Max models. These will not just make the phone lighter but also stronger.

Here’s how much it might cost you

In the US, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus might cost you $799 and $899, respectively. The iPhone 15 Pro might take a jump of $100 and be priced at $1099, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max may burn a hole in your pocket with a jump of $200 and sell at $1299.

This could mean a steep price rise in India. While the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are likely to cost the same as the iPhone 14 at Rs 79,900 and Rs 89,900, the price of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Plus is going to hurt.

The iPhone 15 Pro could start at Rs 1,39,900, which is Rs 10,000 more than the iPhone 14 Pro launch price, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max could sell for Rs 20,000 more at Rs 1,59,900.

If these prices are right, start looking for any spare kidneys lying around your house if you’ve got to buy the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max phones.
