The latest beta version of iOS 17 brings with it the ability to record spatial videos on the iPhone 15 Pro. In simple words, it will enable your phone to capture videos that you can view in the upcoming Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
With the iOS 17.2 beta 2, you can use the 3D video effect through the top two cameras of the iPhone 15 Pro held horizontally.
You can activate the feature by turning on the “Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro” option in the Settings app.
Apple said that spatial videos are captured in 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. Each minute of spatial video requires approximately 130MB of storage.
“Record spatial video with remarkable depth for viewing in the Photos app on Apple Vision Pro. For best results, keep the iPhone in landscape orientation and stable while recording. Video is recorded at 30 fps at 1080p. A minute of spatial video is approximately 130 MB,” explains Apple.
When the feature is activated, the camera will show a “Spatial” option within the Camera app’s “Video” interface.
The Vision Pro will be released in early 2024 and will give users the ability to experience these spatial videos through the AR/VR headset.
Once the headset is available next year, users will be able to capture their own spatial videos using the device.
“Users will be able to capture precious moments in three dimensions and relive those memories with incredible depth on Apple Vision Pro,” says Apple.
“Every spatial photo and video transports users back to a moment in time, like a celebration with friends or a special family gathering.”
Despite its early entry into the segment, it appears Apple Vision Pro will not be alone on the top for too long.
As per a report by 9To5Google, South Korean electronics maker Samsung is working on a mixed-reality headset gear, which will likely be unveiled at its Galaxy Unpacked event with foldable devices in the second half of next year.
Codenamed named ‘Infinite’, the headset is likely to be unveiled in July or August but would only go for sale in December.
