Jio AirFiber with 1.5 Gbps speed is coming on September 19: What is Reliance’s latest superfast internet service

There’s soon going to be another disruption in the Indian market, this time in the form of some crazy Wi-Fi speeds, thanks to Reliance Jio. The Mukesh Ambani-led company is set to launch a new wireless internet service called Jio AirFiber on September 19.

The portable wireless internet service has been designed for homes and offices, and the company claims it will deliver speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps. If the actual number is anywhere near that users will be able to seamlessly stream high-definition videos, and enjoy online gaming like never before.

At the 2023 AGM, Ambani had announced that the Jio AirFiber will officially launch on Ganesh Chaturthi.

But how is it different from the existing Jio Fiber internet service? Let’s dig into it.

Jio AirFiber uses 5G technology to deliver high-speed internet connectivity. It should be noted that Jio AirFiber speeds are comparable to those from the traditional fiber-optic connection, in addition to the compact and portable form factor.

It is going to be a plug-and-play kind of a device as Jio says on its website.

“You just have to just plug it in, turn it on, and that’s it. You now have a personal Wi-Fi hotspot in your home, connected to ultra-high-speed internet using True 5G. With JioAirFiber, it will be really easy to quickly connect your home or office to Gigabit-speed Internet,” it says.

While Jio Fiber uses wired fiber optic cables, Jio AirFiber uses point-to-point radio links to deliver superfast wireless internet connection.

In simple words, there are no cables in Jio AirFiber, it simply relies on line-of-sight communication with Jio towers.

It will also surpass the speed of Jio Fiber, which runs at 1Gbps, and allow users to enjoy internet services at 1.5 Gbps speed. The actual speed may really depend on the location of the nearest tower.

The company has also claimed that Jio AirFiber will have larger coverage since it is not limited by the constraints of fiber optics cables.

Since it is a plug-and-play device, there won’t be any requirement for professional installation, saving time and money.

Other than high-speed internet, Jio AirFiber will include parental control tools, support for Wi-Fi 6, and greater control over the network.

Although the company hasn’t announced the official price range for the data plans, it should be priced competitively as per Reliance Jio’s tradition. We are expecting it to start at somewhere around Rs 6,000.
