Lenovo working on a transparent laptop; Launch expected at MWC 2024

Guess what time it is? CES is in the rearview mirror, which means it’s now time to gear up for the next major connectivity bash: Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC). Set to go down in Barcelona from February 26 to 29, 2024, this event is shaping up to be another hotbed of innovation and fresh ideas following the buzz from CES.

Lenovo is gearing up to give its lineup a major boost with upgrades to six of its existing devices, plus they’ve got one super thrilling new concept in the works that could knock your socks off! First things first, let’s talk about how the transparent trend is really starting to take off. But why did it take so darn long to get here? Well, for starters, the technology behind it used to require pricey manufacturing methods. And you know what that means—higher costs, which doesn’t exactly sit well with everyday customers looking to spruce up their homes.

Now that making transparent panels has become a tad simpler, the market is really starting to pick up steam, and LG’s transparent OLED showcased at CES is a prime example of that. Plus, if we rewind back to CES 2010, it’s pretty obvious that Samsung’s transparent OLED screen was way ahead of its time.

But hey, maybe now’s the prime time for a totally see-through laptop, don’t you think? Lenovo seems to be banking on that idea, as they’re gearing up to reveal their concept at MWC 2024.

So, Lenovo’s transparent laptop rocks a bezel-less setup, where the display is totally see-through. The deck itself also appears to be transparent, with all the main guts tucked away inside and beneath the chin, which is the only non-transparent part. Plus, there’s a sleek, non-transparent frame wrapping around the entire deck, likely where all the ports are tucked away.

We don’t have any specs yet, but what we do know is that this laptop runs on Windows 11 and sticks to that classic Lenovo design we’re all familiar with. From the looks of it, it’s more akin to those dual-screen laptops that are all the rage lately, rather than your typical single-screen setup.

So, do we really need transparent laptops? We’ll definitely be keeping a close watch on MWC to see how Lenovo pitches their potential uses for it, and who knows, maybe we’ll get some hints about specs, battery life, and overall performance.
