Mystery Qualcomm chip shows up in leaks, but it’s not Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

Rumor has it that Qualcomm might be cooking up a fresh processor for their Snapdragon 8 Gen series. But hold your horses, it’s not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 that’s been buzzing around lately. Nope, the word on the street is that it might actually be a toned-down version of the current top dog, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Digital Chat Station, a pretty trustworthy leaker, spilled the beans on Weibo about this new chip called SM8635. While they didn’t dish out the official name, the codename hints that it’s probably part of the Snapdragon 8 lineup.

This chip’s packing a punch with a 2.9GHz ARM Cortex X4 core and an Adreno 735 GPU. The tipster even spilled the beans about its AnTuTu score, boasting over 1.7 million. If that’s the real deal, it means this SM8635 chip could outshine the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in terms of raw power. Looks like we might be looking at a lighter version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

But hold up, Roland Quandt, another one of those leakers, just dropped some info suggesting that Qualcomm’s got not one, but two similar chips in the works: the SM8635 and the SM7675. Now, this throws a bit of a curveball into the mix regarding where exactly the SM8635 fits into the whole Snapdragon lineup.

They’re saying that the “SM7675” is rumored to be the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. Digital Chat Station had mentioned before that it’s supposed to be the top dog in the Snapdragon 7 series when it comes to power.

Even though there’s some fuzziness about the chip, word on the street is that several smartphone models might pack the SM8635 under the hood. Rumors suggest it could show up in the Poco F6, which was initially thought to run on the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, as well as the Redmi Note 13 Turbo and a new addition to the iQOO Neo-series lineup.
