No iPhone 15 Pro Max this year; get ready for an Ultra surprise

The launch of Apple’s next lineup of iPhones is less than a month away and rumor mills are working double time to bring information on iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro.

After that full stop, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that there won’t be any iPhone 15 Pro Max this year, but the good news is actually better news, as there will be a superior iPhone 15 Ultra replacing the earlier top model.

According to AppleInsider’s Andrew O’Hara Apple might be dropping the iPhone 15 Pro Max moniker and instead going with ‘Ultra’ for this year’s top-end model.

Here are some of the rumored features of the iPhone 15 Ultra as compared to the iPhone 15 Pro model.

It is believed that Apple might work on its camera in a big way, starting with adding a more powerful zoom, something in the category of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Previously, it was rumored that the top iPhone 15 model could come with 5x or 6x zoom capability, now it is being said that iPhone 15 Ultra will be able to zoom up to 10x range thanks to a periscope telephoto lens.

This is something that seems to be pulled from Samsung’s playbook as the Galaxy S23 Ultra packs in a 10x optical zoom lens.

While Samsung uses a 10MP sensor for its telephoto lens, there’s no word on the sensor Apple could use.

iPhone 15 Ultra could pack an almost 1-inch Sony IMX903 as the primary sensor.

Other than a better zooming camera, iPhone 15 Ultra could also have a bigger display of 6.7-inches like the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

It was rumored earlier that Apple could further reduce the bezels on all sides, leading to a display seemingly larger.

The phone is likely to be powered by a bigger battery, perhaps larger than the Pro model.

Another rumor has started getting some support that the upcoming iPhone could feature an “Action Button” instead of the iconic ring/silent switch on the side.

The rumored Action Button could work as a multi-functioning toggle for many things including a mute option.

It also strongly believed that the phone could feature a stronger Titanium chassis, packing a powerful 3nm Apple A17 Bionic processor.

One of the biggest updates to come with this year’s iPhones is quite strongly expected to be a high-bandwidth USB-C port.

Most of it, if not all, looks pretty much possible going by Apple’s traditions. In any case, we all will know better on September 12 when Tim Cook takes to the stage in his inimitable style to announce the next technological marvels.
