OnePlus is gearing up to introduce its second smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 2. The Chinese tech company hinted at the upcoming launch through a teaser image shared on its X account, cryptically stating, “It’s about time.” The company has also created a dedicated page on its official website, giving some details about its second full-blown smartwatch.

Scheduled for a reveal at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 26, the OnePlus Watch 2 aims to address the performance issues that plagued its predecessor. OnePlus acknowledges the room for improvement and seeks to redefine the smartwatch experience with this upcoming release.

A key emphasis for the OnePlus Watch 2 will be its battery life. OnePlus has made a bold claim by promising 100 hours of non-stop run time on a single charge in “Smart Mode.” This substantial enhancement intends to cater to users with active lifestyles, addressing a notable concern observed in the earlier model.

In terms of design, the OnePlus Watch 2 is set to embrace a more premium aesthetic, featuring a stainless steel body and a sapphire crystal display for enhanced scratch resistance. Taking inspiration from the OnePlus 12 phone series, the smartwatch will flaunt gentle curves and make use of premium material, adding a touch of sophistication to its visual appeal.

Like its predecessor, the OnePlus Watch 2 will flaunt a circular dial. The smartwatch has been teased in two colors – Black Steel and Radiant Steel, and by the looks of them, both variants look very premium. This sophisticated design-centric approach suggests OnePlus’s intent to position the Watch 2 as a fashion-forward accessory rather than just a functional gadget.

Anticipated specifications include a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset. However, the choice between WearOS 3/WearOS 4 raises eyebrows, considering this operating system’s historically known battery constraints. If OnePlus is claiming a 100-hour non-stop run time on a single charge, I doubt the wearable will run on the WearOS. Only in-house software can ensure such a long-lasting battery life promise.

It is worth noting that the first OnePlus Watch arrived in just one size variant, which restricted its verstality for the masses. The company should address the issue by unveiling the Watch 2 in atleast two size variants.

Moving on, Kinder Liu, the COO and President of OnePlus, frames the Watch 2 as a shift toward becoming an “Ecosystem builder.” The company aims to provide an experience beyond improvement, indicating its ambition to carve a distinct space in the competitive smartwatch market.

As for the pricing, we expect the OnePlus Watch to start at Rs. 16,999 for the regular edition. We anticipate the bigger size variant to cost around Rs. 18,999.
