Qualcomm reportedly making two Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips for Galaxy phones

So, in the official spec slides for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, they spilled the beans that the single Cortex-X4 core can rev up to 3.30GHz. But, hold on – Qualcomm is teaming up with Samsung for an exclusive ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen for Galaxy,’ and in this special edition, the SoC gets cranked up a notch higher than the standard setup. Rumor has it, they’re testing two versions, and whether you snag the speedier one depends entirely on your geographical luck.

So, here’s the deal – not every corner of the world gets the same Galaxy S24 Ultra treatment. And before you start wondering, Samsung’s crème de la crème flagship is hitting the stage exclusively with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. No Exynos 2400 in the cards, not now, not ever.

But here’s the kicker – even with that fancy ‘for Galaxy’ tag, @TheGalox_alt spilled the beans on X that there are two flavors of the ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy.’ The first one rocks a Cortex-X4 running at 3.30GHz, which doesn’t really make it stand out from the regular version since their Cortex-X4 is cruising at the same speed.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting – the souped-up version kicks it up a notch with its Cortex-X4 hitting 3.40GHz, a tiny boost but an improvement nonetheless. These two ‘Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy’ editions are hitting the shelves in three markets – B, N, and U. And just to clear the fog, ‘U’ stands for the U.S. market, while ‘N’ is Samsung’s homeland, Korea. So, if you snag a Galaxy S24 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in these two markets, the Cortex-X4 will be ticking at 3.30GHz.

Now, when it comes to market ‘B,’ they didn’t spill the beans on the exact places, so it’s a safe bet that the Galaxy S24 Ultra with the slightly amped-up Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will probably hit the rest of the globe. It’s a bit of a surprise twist – the two big-shot markets that are crucial for Samsung are in line to get a Galaxy S24 Ultra with a tad slower speed. But, let’s keep it real, a 100MHz difference isn’t the apocalypse, and you won’t notice a world of difference in the real-world scenario.

On top of that, it all boils down to how well the vapor chamber in the Galaxy S24 Ultra handles things. The higher-clocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy might just hit a roadblock if temperatures go haywire, nullifying any initial advantage.
