Realme 12+ 5G launched with Full HD+ OLED display, 50MP OIS camera; key specs and India launch details

The Realme 12+ 5G has been officially introduced in the Indonesian and Malaysian markets, ahead of its scheduled launch in India. The mid-range 5G smartphone is slated to debut in India on March 6, sharing the spotlight with the Realme 12 5G. The two 5G-enabled handsets will expand Realme’s existing number series portfolio in the Indian market, which currently consists of the Realme 12 Pro 5G and the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G.

Expected to be positioned at a price point below Rs. 25,000 in India, the Realme 12+ 5G brings a premium design, a big OLED display, an OIS-enabled quad-rear camera, and a big 5,000mAh battery with fast-charging support. It will compete with the upcoming Nothing Phone 2a and other sub-30K smartphones in India.

Let’s get into the specifics of the upcoming mid-range device.

Realme 12+ 5G Specifications

The Realme 12+ 5G comes in two color options- Navigator Beige and Pioneer Green and both look pretty striking with their vegan leather finish. The flat edges and flat display enhance the look and feel of the mid-range handset. The smartphone weighs 190g and measures 162.95mm x 75.45mm x 7.87mm in size.

The front fascia has a 6.67-inch full-HD+ screen with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. Since Realme has offered an OLED panel with a 2,000-nits peak brightness level, we expect vibrant color reproduction and good outdoor visibility. The UI should also feel fluid, as the display offers a 120Hz refresh rate.

A MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC fuels the Realme 12+ 5G and is mated with an ARM Mali-G68 MC4 GPU, and up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM + 256GB of onboard storage. The smartphone runs on Android 14-based Realme UI 5.0 out-of-the-box. These are good numbers for a mid-ranger device in 2024 and should ensure smooth hardware-software performance with both light and heavy tasks.

As for the optics, the smartphone sports a 50MP Sony LYT-600 primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) support. An 8MP sensor, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro shooter aid it. Realme still thinks these meager 2MP macro sensors make sense in 2024. There’s a 16MP sensor for selfies and video calls.

The mid-range smartphone draws power from a 5,000mAh battery cell, which is supported by a 67W SuperVOOC charging. The handset comes equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. In terms of connectivity, the Realme 12+ 5G supports 5G, GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, and USB Type-C connectivity.

Realme 12+ 5G Price and India Launch Timeline

The Realme 12+5G has been introduced in Indonesia and Malaysia, with strong indications that it will soon make its way to Indian stores, potentially in March itself. As for the pricing, it is expected that the smartphone’s 8GB + 256GB variant may be priced at approximately Rs. 22,000, while the 12GB + 256GB variant could be priced around Rs. 26,200 in India.
