Reliance on Monday disrupted the Indian laptop market by launching one of the most affordable laptops with JioBook at Rs 16,499, literally cheaper than a lot of mid-range smartphones.
This is the second entry from Reliance in the laptop segment after last year’s JioBook, which is not available to buy anymore. The laptop, running on JioOS, will go on sale on Amazon and Reliance Digital’s online and offline stores on August 5.
There’s more about this exciting little offering from Reliance than its competitive pricing. Remember, less expensive doesn’t necessarily mean cheap. Let’s take a look:
Flaunting a pleasant blue shade with the Jio logo on the lid, the JioBook features a visibly lightweight design. In the world of laptops, lighter is generally pricier. The JioBook is not only light on the pocket but also to carry. Weighing at only 990 grams, the JioBook is in the range of some of the big leaguers like Apple.
The JioBook’s sleek and compact design is also due to its edge-to-edge “infinity” keyboard and a large trackpad for easy access.
Even though the display has thick bezels, the 11.6-inch compact anti-glare HD screen with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels is a decent bargain in the price range.
Equipped with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and MediaTek MT8788 2.0 GHz Octa-Core Processor, the latest Jio laptop runs on JioOS. The inbuilt 64GB storage is expandable up to 256GB with an SD card.
One of the USPs of the laptop is its “always-on” 4G connectivity through a pre-integrated SIM, which can be activated by registering it on Jio.com or MyJio mobile app. Or, it can be activated by visiting a brick-and-mortar Jio store.
The JioBook also offers dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz), Bluetooth v5.0, 2 USB ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm audio jack for connectivity. The laptop offers up to eight hours of backup with a Lithium-ion battery. A 2-megapixel webcam supports video calling with the help of stereo speakers in the JioBook laptop.
A few proprietary apps like Jio TV, JioCloud games, and JioBIAN come preloaded with the laptop. Users can learn coding languages such as Java, Python, and Pearl with the Linux-based coding software JioBIAN. Reliance also offers free cloud storage of up to 100GB with Digiboxx with the latest JioBook laptop.
