It’s raining affordable 5G phones in India right now. After Redmi 12 5G, POCO M6 Pro 5G, now is the time for the all-time disruptor Reliance Jio to enter the game with what is being touted as the “most affordable” 5G phone.
According to reports, Reliance Jio has been testing the JioPhone 5G, a budget offering to benefit from the telecom operator’s True 5G network.
While there is no confirmation from the company, it is believed the phone will launch later this month.
The phone should launch on August 28, the day of the Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Ltd, Jio’s parent company.
It was in August 2022 that Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries Chairman, announced plans for an affordable 5G phone that his company will produce in collaboration with Google.
This will be the first 5G phone from Jio. All the JioPhone models launched so far and available currently for sale are 4G compatible.
Let’s find out more about the phone
This new phone is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor. The base model is likely to have 4 GB of RAM clubbed with 32 GB of internal storage that can be expandable with the help of a microSD card.
Likely to be a 6.50-inch touchscreen phone, the JioPhone 5G will be powered by a 5,000 mAh battery that will support 18W fast USB type C charging.
The pictures circulating on social media platforms show that the phone will have a dual camera setup (13 MP + 2 MP) and in the front, there can be an 8MP camera.
The phone will likely feature a dual sim with a dedicated microSD card slot. However, the primary or the first SIM card may also be restricted just for a Jio SIM card while the second could be from other operators.
The budget smartphone is likely to be based on Android 12 and will offer connectivity through a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
The phone is rumored to cost below Rs. 10,000, and if that is correct, it could be the cheapest 5G smartphone in the country.
