Samsung Galaxy Ring was the surprise showcase at the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event. It stole the spotlight from the much-anticipated Galaxy S24 Series and quickly became the topic of discussion among tech enthusiasts. Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, a compact device brimming with sensors, aims to replace traditional smartwatches by offering adding convenience.
Samsung touts the Galaxy Ring as “a powerful and accessible health and wellness device, set to reshape future health in a way only Samsung can.” Intrigued? Let’s delve into what Samsung has in store for 2024 in the realm of wearable technology.
What is Galaxy Ring?
As the name suggests, the Galaxy Ring is a ‘Smart Ring’ packed with Samsung’s tried and tested health innovations in an all-new form factor. Everything you get inside your Samsung Galaxy Watch is integrated into a traditional ring-styled form factor for better accessibility. This could range from your SpO2 monitor, step counter, optical heart-rate sensor, blood pressure monitor, and possibly an atrial-fibrillation detection sensor.
Its design features a noticeable bump, likely housing a temperature gauge. Given that rings are typically worn continuously, including during sleep, a skin temperature sensor, in conjunction with a sleep tracker, could provide comprehensive wellness insights. Similar to a Galaxy Watch, the Ring is expected to connect to your smartphone via the Galaxy Wear mobile application.
The sensors will be discreetly embedded within the ring’s inner layer. The Ring, as showcased in the teaser, comes in a glossy black finish; however, additional colors, sizes, and finishes may be unveiled at its official launch.
Similar to other smart rings, the Galaxy Ring is expected to be compatible with both iOS and Android devices. It will most likely last up to 7-days on a single charge.
Galaxy Ring Expected Price and Availability
Samsung has only teased the Galaxy Ring, without providing an official release date. We anticipate its formal debut later in the year, possibly alongside the next-generation Galaxy Foldable smartphones in July 2024.
Regarding pricing, the Galaxy Ring won’t be modestly priced. Considering the Noise Luna Ring’s price tag of INR 19,000, the Galaxy Ring could range between Rs. 25-30K in the Indian market. While this may seem steep for a smart ring, the wealth of technology it harbors, coupled with the convenience it offers, seems to justify its value.
