Silicon Valley badboy Apple arrives at artificial intelligence party with AI-powered Siri

Apple is that one guy who comes late to every party but instantly becomes a hit among people. Now, Apple is still on the way to the artificial intelligence party, where other big names like Google, Meta, Microsoft, and even Amazon are already having a gala time.

It is almost every day that major tech giants are introducing new AI features for their products but Apple is yet to take that first step. But if reports are to be believed, Apple is about to join the party in style.

As per a report by Bloomberg, Apple is working on expanding its portfolio of generative AI technology by introducing AI-related features for iPhones, Macs, and various services, including the voice assistant Siri.

Apple’s very own large language model (LLM), called Apple GPT, is being led by three senior vice presidents: John Giannandrea, Craig Federighi, and Eddy Cue.

“Cue’s team is examining how generative AI can be used to help people write in apps like Pages or auto-create slide decks in Keynote,” says the report.

In the initial stage, Apple is focusing on supercharging Siri with generative AI capabilities. It could be released as early as next year in 2024.

It is expected that the company will release a bigger tranche of AI features with iOS 18. The operating system will incorporate several generative AI capabilities.

Additionally, Apple is exploring ways to integrate AI into its Xcode development app.

Apple’s other first-party apps including Apple Music, Keynote, and Pages will have AI capabilities. Apple Music will be able to generate playlists based on your listening habits and Pages will use AI to help you with editing and writing.

The report says that Apple is still deciding on how to implement generative AI. Apple could use it on devices to help protect user privacy as well as through a cloud-based setup to offer a more powerful AI experience.

It should be noted that Apple’s biggest rival, Google, recently launched its latest lineup of Pixel phones with upgraded AI capabilities.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones come packed with some amazing AI features such as Audio Magic Eraser, Magic Editor, Zoom Enhance, and Best Take.

The company has also made Assistant better with some AI updates. It will now be able to understand speech better and recognize pauses. It will also be able to translate web pages and read them out loud.
