Tecno Pova 5, 5 Pro 5G launched: Another Nothing Phone wannabe?

What does Pova mean? Nothing. That’s also a clue to ‘What is the “inspiration” behind this phone?’ Nothing.

Tecno has unveiled its latest Pova 5 and Pova 5 Pro 5G phones in India, and they have arrived a little late to the fancy dress party, after Infinix GT 10 Pro, where everyone tries to dress like Nothing Phone.

Tecno has called the design of the back panel its “3D Arc Interface”. The RGB backlit panel is customizable for calls, notifications, and music playback.

Unfortunately, the cheaper Tecno Pova 5 doesn’t come with the LED lights at the back but it does come with an industry-first “3D Turbo Mecha” panel. Whatever that means!

Now that we have the phone’s biggest USP aside, let’s talk about its tech specs:

Processor: The Tecno Pova 5 is powered by MediaTek Helio G99 6nm chipset and the senior phone, Tecno Pova 5 Pro, runs on MediaTek Dimensity 6080 SoC at a speed of 2.4GHz.

Display: Both phones come with a 6.78-inch display with a full-HD+ resolution and promise a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Camera: Both the phones pack 50MP AI dual camera on the back, Pova 5 comes with an 8MP selfie camera and the Pova 5 Pro carries a 16MP camera up front.

RAM and storage: While both the variants come with 8GB RAM (8GB virtual RAM), the base model packs 128GB storage, expandable up to 256GB, and the top model carries 256GB storage.

Battery: With a 45W charger, Pova 5 is powered by a 6000 mAh battery. Tecno Pova 5 Pro comes with a 68W “ultra-fast” charger and a 5000 mAh battery.

Software: Both phones run on HiOS 13.1 based on Android 13.

Colors: The Tecno Pova 5 model will be available in Mecha Black, Hurricane Blue, and Amber Gold color selections, the Pova 5 Pro smartphone will come in Silver Fantasy and Dark Illusion color options.

Price: The base model Tecno Pova 5 has been priced at Rs 11,999 and Tecno Pova 5 Pro 5G comes at Rs 14,999. Both phones will be up for sale starting August 22 on Amazon.

Just to add our two cents, the Tecno Pova 5 Pro is a bit pricey 5G option considering the competition some phones like the Redmi 12 5G and the POCO M6 Pro 5G are posing in the segment.

With a name like that, it’s going to face tough competition anyway, so all the best out there, Pova!
