WhatsApp is testing a native file sharing feature for its Android user base.

WhatsApp users on Android will soon be able to share files with other users in their vicinity.

The file sharing feature will be a part of the upcoming update — version 2.24.2.20 — through the Google Play Beta Program.

You will soon see a “Share files with people nearby” option in the app, and a list of users nearby. This is similar to Apple’s Airdrop feature.

WhatsApp will allow users to simply shake their device to see an incoming share request.

The nearby sharing feature will be end-to-end encrypted to maintain privacy.
