WhatsApp’s new feature will let users know who was recently online

WhatsApp, the messaging app, is reportedly cooking up a new feature that hasn’t hit users yet. The buzz is that they’re tinkering with recent updates that’ll let you see which of your contacts have been active lately. This fresh addition is all about making communication smoother by giving you a heads-up on who’s likely to reply quickly to your texts or calls.

According to the folks over at WABeta Info, WhatsApp is gonna start giving you a heads-up on which of your contacts have been active lately. It’s like a cheat sheet so you don’t have to go stalking everyone’s online status one by one anymore. The new feature is gonna keep things on the down-low by not showing the last seen or online statuses in these lists. So, you can still get the scoop on recent activity without anyone knowing your business.

WhatsApp wants to make your chatting experience better

Right now, they’re trying out the new feature with a bunch of lucky beta testers who’ve snagged the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Play Store. If all goes well, it should start reaching more users in the next few weeks as they keep testing it out.

WhatsApp has been busy cooking up a bunch of new features to make chatting even better. One of these upcoming features is all about reconnecting with contacts you haven’t chatted with in a while. It’s like a little nudge to spark up new conversations and keep the communication flowing.

Plus, if you’re not into getting suggestions for starting new chats, no worries! They’ve got you covered with an opt-out option. So, you can keep your current chats flowing smoothly without any interruptions, giving you total control over your messaging vibe. Right now, both these cool features are still in the testing phase, but there’s a good chance they’ll be part of future updates for the app. As WhatsApp keeps growing and changing, these tweaks are gonna make chatting even better for all of us.

Third-party chats coming to WhatsApp?

According to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) by the European Commission, WhatsApp (and Messenger) gotta open up to let folks in the EU use other messaging apps. Basically, WhatsApp has to allow you to message and receive messages from people using other apps like Signal or Telegram within the EU.

Previously, WABetaInfo dropped a bomb in their latest report, revealing that the newest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (v2.23.19.8) is packing a feature called ‘third-party chats’ to comply with these rules. This means you’ll be able to chat with people on other platforms. They even shared a screenshot of the feature, shedding light on some interesting (and kinda concerning) details about it.
