From smartphones to smart cars, Xiaomi’s list of consumer products is long and diverse. The Chinese company has now ventured into the electric vehicle market by unveiling its first EV, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan.
With the latest launch, Xiaomi aims to destabilize established players like Tesla and BMW. It is ambitious if nothing else. The design is quite slick and the EV is packed to brim with all the latest automobile innovations.
There are three models in the SU7 series that are named like phones for some reason: the standard SU7, the SU7 Pro, and the SU7 Max. No there’s no Ultra.
According to a news report, the car is 4,997mm in length, 1,963mm in width, and 1,455mm in height, with a substantial wheelbase of 3,000mm.
It comes with two-wheel options- 19-inch and 20-inch.
The Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version is equipped with a 220kW motor, while the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant delivers a combined output of 495kW, thanks to a dual-motor setup (220kW front + 275kW rear).
The battery technology varies between the models, with the base option featuring an LFP battery pack from BYD and the premium variant boasting a ternary NMC battery from CATL.
The standard SU7 has a curb weight of 1,980kg and a top speed limited to 210kmph, while the SU7 Max weighs in at 2,205kg and can reach a maximum speed of 265kmph.
Xiaomi has used its proprietary HyperOS inside the car. The latest operating system that runs on Xiaomi’s new phones, and now the car promises a seamless user experience across devices. You can expect a seamless integration between Xiaomi handsets, and IoT devices if you for some reason plan to invest in the vehicle.
The company will commence production in December this year and the first deliveries are expected in February 2024.
The BAIC Off-road Vehicle Company seems to be the contract manufacturer for the Xiaomi SU7. Interestingly, BAIC also produces cars for Mercedes-Benz in China.
