Xiaomi is known for breaking the glass ceiling, or shattering the earth beneath our feet when it comes to competitive pricing. With its latest offering in Redmi 12 series phones, the smartphone giant has made 5G connectivity affordable at as low as Rs 10,999.

Did we say a series of phones? Yes, you read that right. When we are talking about Xiaomi, there’s affordable and then there is extra affordable.

On Tuesday, Xiaomi launched 4G and 5G variants of the Redmi 12 phone, both of which are further divided into two and three variants, respectively.

Xiaomi Redmi 12 4G

The Redmi 12 4G comes with two storage options – 4GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The storage is expandable up to 1TB using a microSD card. The base model comes with a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC paired with Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU.

Both phones use the same display, the largest on a Xiaomi phone so far. The phones boast of a 6.79-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, and 1080 X 2400 pixels resolution. The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass layer for protection.

The triple camera setup on the back of Redmi 12 consists of a 50MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro sensor. It also carries an 8MP selfie camera.

Both the phones run Android 13-based MIUI 14 skin out of the box and are juiced by a 5,000 mAh battery, which supports 18W fast charging.

The 4GB + 128 GB variant of the Redmi 12 4G phone will cost Rs 8,999 while the 6GB + 128 GB will cost Rs 10,499.

Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G

Redmi 12’s top model is among the most affordable 5G phones in the Indian market currently. The 5G phone comes in three storage variants: 4GB + 128 GB, 6GB + 128 GB, and 8GB + 256 GB. The storage on all three variants is expandable up to 1TB using a microSD card.

The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC paired with the Adreno GPU for graphics. It carries 50MP primary camera with a 2MP depth camera. This one also carries an 8MP camera up front.

Both the phones come with what Xiaomi has called a “crystal glass” design on the back. The Redmi 12 phone series carries IP53 dust and splash resistance.

The 4GB + 128GB has been priced at Rs 10,999, the 6GB + 128GB will cost you Rs 12,499 and the 8GB + 256GB will come at Rs 14,499. The phones will be available in online and offline stores from August 4.
