You can now ask Google Bard to explain YouTube videos

It’s no surprise that artificial intelligence is becoming smarter every day, but the new features that are being unveiled are definitely something to be excited about.

In the latest update, Google has given Bard the capability to watch a video on your behalf and then explain it too.

Google Bard, a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, was launched earlier this year. Since then, it has received a great number of features to make it one of the front-row contenders in the AI race.

You can now ask Google Bard to go through a YouTube video on your behalf, essentially watching it to gather information.

You can use this feature to collect material for research or dig through food recipes, or even summarise lengthy videos when you have little time to watch them yourself.

It won’t just explain the content of the video but you can even ask it further questions about elements inside the video, including people and places shown.

The ability to understand video content was added to Bard back in September, but it’s only now that its full abilities, including understanding and replying contextually have just been unlocked.

We’re taking the first steps in Bard’s ability to understand YouTube videos. For example, if you’re looking for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires,” Google notes in the Bard changelog.

“We’ve heard you want deeper engagement with YouTube videos. So we’re expanding the YouTube Extension to understand some video content so you can have a richer conversation with Bard about it,” it added.

To use this ability, simply copy the YouTube video link and paste it with a detailed prompt in Google Bard about the information you require from it.

The upgrade to Bard comes at a time when YouTube has introduced some new AI features to enhance the viewing experience.

Still in the testing phase, the features aim to simplify navigating through extensive comment sections in lengthy videos.

It will organize comments into easily understandable topics.
