You can’t ignore Maruti’s first Electric SUV, eVX Concept, at Bharat Mobility Expo 2024; check details

Maruti has stepped into the electric vehicle (EV) arena with a bang, revealing its inaugural electric SUV, the eVX concept, at the ongoing Bharat Mobility show. This marks a significant move for Maruti as it delves into the electric segment, aiming for a late 2024 or early 2025 release. Notably, the eVX is set to be the company’s first electric offering in India and will compete with Tata, Mahindra, MG, and Hyundai’s upcoming EV portfolio.

Designed in collaboration with Toyota, the eVX concept previews Maruti’s foray into the electric SUV market, showcasing a robust partnership that promises innovation and sustainability. Toyota, in turn, is expected to launch its version of the eVX next year, amplifying the impact of this joint venture. This is in line with Toyota and Maruti’s long-going vehicle-sharing program.

The first-ever electric SUV from Maruti, codenamed YV8 was also seen undergoing testing in real-world conditions. Positioned as a response to the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, the eVX exhibits a striking design with a wide stance, muscular lines behind the rear doors, and a roofline that gracefully tapers towards the back, offering a coupe-SUV aesthetic.

The eVX concept teases two battery options, with a 60kWh battery touted for a remarkable 550km range. Industry insiders anticipate that the production version will retain a similar capacity battery, providing a real-world range of approximately 500km. Additionally, there are whispers of an entry-level variant with a smaller 48kWh battery, offering an estimated 400km of range. This model will be an arch-rival of the Hyundai Creta EV, Honda Elevate EV, and Tata Nexon EV.

The anticipated price range for the Maruti eVX is approximately Rs. 20.00 Lakh to Rs. 25.00 Lakh, varying based on the chosen variant. Scheduled for its production-ready debut in 2025, the eVX is poised to be available through Maruti’s Nexa outlets, with potential variants including Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha.

Maruti will manufacture its first EV in its Gujarat plant. The production-spec Maruti YV8 SUV aims to cater to both domestic and international markets. As Maruti gears up for its electric debut, the eVX concept signifies a pivotal moment in the brand’s history, emphasizing its commitment to a cleaner, sustainable automotive future.
